Celebrate People

When my kids were young, we would go to Disneyland about 15 times a year with our annual passes. We would ask our kids what their favorite thing to do was while we were there. One day, one of my kids asked me that back. I told my kids that I loved wishing people Happy Birthday. At Disneyland, they give big pins that say Happy Birthday and the person’s name. So they are easy to spot and as you pass people or see them in line, it is easy to wish them birthday cheers and give them a smile. My record in one day is 22 and I cannot wait to beat it!

Pay It Forward

My girlfriend and I were in a Starbucks drive-thru getting our coffees and food. When we go to the window to pay, we were told that the car in front of us paid for our meal. So we paid it forward and paid for the meal of the car behind us. Before we drove away we found out that we were the 4th car in the chain, so there were many Intentional Acts of Kindness being performed

Support Our Troops

My 6-year-old son got out of the car at a gas station and on the way to the bathroom, he saw 2 soldiers in uniform working under the hood of their truck. He went over to them and said ‘Thank you for your service’ and then shook their hands! It was not encouraged by his mom or me at all, he just did it because he wanted to!

The Power of a Hug

My boyfriend and I were having lunch in a restaurant, and we noticed a woman at the table in front of us. She was alone and quietly crying. We mentioned the woman to our waitress, and the waitress said she’d also noticed that she was crying, but wasn’t sure what had happened. My boyfriend walked over to the woman and said, “you look like you could use a hug,” and then gave her a calming hug. When he moved away, she smiled a bit and thanked him. My boyfriend returned to the table, and when our waitress came over again, we asked for both our own check and the woman’s check. We paid both of the bills and then quietly snuck out before the woman could discover what we’d done. We hoped our gesture lifted her up and helped her remember that she wasn’t alone.
